Stay Close to Jesus

As we draw closer to the events of Holy Week, we realize that the journey of Lent takes discipline and resolve. Discipline to slow down... and resolve to keep our focus on our walk with Jesus. Stay close to the Savior, He paved the road with his words and actions.

Welcome back from Spring Break. I enjoyed a wonderful trip to Georgia and North Carolina, but it is always good to get back home... and back to the learning partnership with our OLL scholars.

Grades 6, 7, and 8 have spelling/vocab. this week. Also research papers and autobiographies will be returned this week. In Language Arts (7 and 8) we will focus on the elements of short stories and read "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky" by Stephen Crane.

In Geography, we are beginning our unit on Deserts with the Planet Earth Desert DVD. We will focus on Sahara Desert and talk about how this environment forces humans, plants, and animals to adapt to a harsh reality. Eventually students will be designing their own "sahel" and camp to house their nomadic lifestyle.

Thank you again parents, and grandparents, for all you do for our school and students. May God bless the many memories and stories of Father Conan as he hovers so closer in our hearts. Blessings on your Lenten journey with Jesus.

Lent: prayer discipline

Today Grades 3,5,6,7,8 came together to pray as part of our Lenten discipline. Thank you Mrs. Marita for inviting us to join you and guiding our students to share prayer requests. Also, we join many others remembering the Lulich family in this time of need.

Quick update on academic assignments:
Grade 8: Students received a check list of final essay assignments due next Friday. All rough drafts have been returned to students so it should be a matter of revisiting the rough drafts and adding corrections, etc.
Grade 7: Final autobiographies are due next Friday. Rough drafts have been returned. Please ask to see comments and help students to improve their final papers.
Grade 6: Outlines will be returned on Tuesday to begin writing about an Ancient Greek personality.

Geography: Students are doing European country presentations. Today we visited Germany and England. We found out some good information including the cost of a ticket to these tourist spots. Students have their faux passports stamped. Presentations will continue next Monday and Tuesday.

Remember next week: School is dismissed at noon on Friday and then we ALL have the luxury of a week of spring break. I intend that students will have that time "off" unless they do not get their work in before the break. When Grades 7 and 8 return, we will work on oral presentations (research and autobiographies).
