A New Season of Opportunity

Dear Parents and Students,

We eagerly await our new season of learning together as the beginning of our school year draws near. We have been busy getting our classrooms ready and also meeting to discuss school year plans. Mr. Bell is settled in and we are thankful for his capable leadership. You will enjoy working with him.

Don't forget to purchase your supplies. 8th graders, you will need assignment notebooks. I can help you with that on the first day if this is not clear. Also on Thursday, September 4th, we are traveling to Big Top Chatauqua so be prepared for our first field trip already the first week.
For English 6, 7, and 8, I am recommending that you bring a 3-ring binder with paper to class each day. I have found the spiral notebooks to not work efficiently, so will use 3-ring binders this year. This will afford you an opportunity to save returned work as a reference tool.

Also, each junior high grade student will be asked to read two library books (outside reading) each quarter. Start thinking about a book that you WANT to read. We have a good library at OLL and also the Vaughn Library has a great selection... so consider what you may want to read for your first book. We also have some good books in the junior high on our shelves.

Final thought: You will love the new look to the junior high. It is colorful and functional for learning. I feel so blessed to be part of a faith community where so many donate their time to assure our success. God bless and keep you all... and we will gather together on September 2nd for a great year of learning together and growing in our faith. Bring it on.
Blessings, Mrs. Ellis

With Joy and Thanks

Dear OLL Family,
I am in Seattle and packing my suitcase to return to Ashland. Our new granddaughter arrived on August 1 and she is a beautiful gift from God. Amelia Joan Ellis weighed in at 9 pounds 1 oz. with a full head of hair and a hearty appetite. Herb and I had the pleasure of caring for Sophie (age 3) while her parents were at the hospital. Amelia came home 24 hours later.
So as we board the plane tomorrow, we carry a smile of joy and thanks to God for this new gift of life.
May you continue to enjoy a good and safe rest of the summer for the calendar indicates a new school year will soon be here. May God bless our new principal Dan Bell. And may He also bless our plans for a new year of learning and growing in faith together.
Proud to be a grandmother again... and grateful for the opportunity to share another school year with you and your precious students.
See you soon. Blessings, Mrs. Alice J. Ellis
